What if punks were overwhelmed by death/doom metal, sludge, extreme, crust and D-beat? How would they sound like? If you wonder, then Usurpress might be the answer to that. Formed back in 2010 (this is their second release), these Swedes are already known in the extreme circles due to their debut.
Certainly, I’m not the apt guy to review such an album but I did give it a try and even though I’m not into this music at all, I can say that Usurpress are not faking and they do what they do with respect of the “old style” extreme music. I do not fancy these kind of primitive & raw productions too, but they are “cool” and a “must” for this genre.
The surprising thing here is the cover on Bo Hansson’s “Lothlórien” from the 1972 (it was released 2 years later only in Sweden) album “(Music inspired by) Lord of the Rings”. The cover is OK although it cannot be compared to the original.
Anyhow, the fans of the genre should check it out but if you do not fancy or recognize any of the abovementioned music styles then stay away…
