This is the sixth studio-work for the ex-Murderdolls frontman Wednesday 13. Definitely there’s not much to say about the horror-strange-bizarre figure of the singer, songwriter and guitarist Wednesday 13. Having been heavily influenced by Alice Cooper, Kiss, Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson, especially stylistically, W13 presents his own horror punk/metal hybrid with various alternative and gothic elements.

“Monsters of the Universe - Come Out and Plague” features 14 (!) tracks and lasts around 58 minutes! All the tracks follow a specific lyrical concept about intergalactic forces, UFOs and aliens. Musically, we’re talking about simplistic punk rock/metal music with some heavier parts too. Nothing very fancy or original. Moreover, the hooklines are quite flat and uninspired. This kind of horror, punk music usually draws its inspiration from undead, cemeteries, zombies and so forth. The extraterrestrial thing is rather OK – if we consider the fact that they are too some “evil, horrid & allomorph creatures” that want to devour humanity. The production is fine but a bit too raw at places.

If we do not mind the “weird” vocals by W13 – after all that’s his style – and strictly focus on the musical part, all we get is a flat, rather insipid and bland album. This is only for W13’s die-hard fans and those are the ones who are gonna enjoy it the most… as for the others, better look around for other music choices…
