Desolation Rose
InsideOut Music
2013
After a year plus, the Swedish progsters are back with a new album. That’s weird. Before their previous album they had taken a 5-year hiatus and now they are releasing one album after the other!
The band’s previous album, “Banks of Eden” was a great prog work in general. It was one of the best prog albums for 2012. So, can you see my point here? After such an album a longer break is somewhat compulsory. I also feel that they didn’t give that album the apt courtesy & support. It was like they were in a hurry but now I do get why.
“Desolation Rose” could have been the identical little brother of “Banks of Eden”! They are in the same pace, mood and music path. This time the concept deals with the mainstream media, the news feeding us with certain point of views & our part on that in a few words.
Musically, “Desolation Rose” follows that 70s & 80s prog rock recipe but it an’t moody as the previous work. It does have a lighter side compared to “Banks of Eden”. Overall, “Desolation Rose” is a very good prog rock album but as you have understood till now, the comparison with their previous release is inevitable. Perhaps if “Desolation Rose” wasn’t near to “Banks of Eden” musically or it hadn’t been released in such a short period… things could have been different. Nonetheless, you can’t like only the one album here… but which one you prefer more, is totally subjective…
