John Garcia
The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues
Napalm Records
2017
John Garcia, the frontman of Kyuss, is a respectable artist in general. I wouldn’t call him a “legend”, cuz it takes much more to be in the “legend category” but there’s nothing wrong with that.
John returns, three years after his eponymous solo album, with a new release which showcases a different music side of his. “The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues” is an acoustic album. Yeah, you got it right… no heavy guitars, no pounding rhythms, not anything. Just acoustic guitars, bass, percussion and John’s voice. How about that? John has Ehren Groban on the acoustic guitar, Greg Saenz on percussions and Mike Pygmie on bass by his side. John calls this album “one of the most important of his career”… I guess he has his reasons. The album was recorded and mixed by Steve Feldman & Robbie Waldman and mastered by Gene “The Machine” Grimaldi at Oasis Mastering in California. The production is fine and clear.
The album features 9 tracks and lasts about 40 minutes. 4 out of the 9 tracks are Kyuss tracks that are presented here with different arrangements. In truth to be told, one must be John’s die-hard fan to listen to this album on the whole and enjoy it somehow. If not, then stay the hell away from it cuz it is totally boring & tiresome in a way, plus it has nothing to offer in general. I know that John does whatever pleases him, but times have changed and the fans are looking for some truly good stuff in order to spend their money on…
