Iron Jawed Guru is a very basic and primal jam band based on a duo of musicians guitarist Mike Lorenzen and drummer Roy Brewer with another member Eric Clutter leaving them to join Karma To Burn.
You can probably imagine that their style is a very raw and I’d dare say quite energetic and at least on “record” not too bad, stoner rock with psychedelic tinges in its riffs. It’s all instrumental, so it’s not exactly something I would feel compelled to listen to all the time, but at times I don’t mind the style. Problem is that after a couple of tracks on each rhythm, the band seems to regurgitate ideas that are already quite minimal and straightforward, thus becoming a little boring, after that. At a little south of 25 minutes however they don’t really manage to become a bane. If you like The Clutch and Kyuss, but more stoned and running on adrenaline, this one might be for ya.
