Apocalipstick
Secretly Canadian
2017
The LA newcomers that were formed in 2012 are back, as a trio, with their third studio album, titled “Apocalipstick”. Well, this is the case that a band gets more recognition that it deserves and has a great idea about themselves without actually offering anything to music than just fooling around playing some basic music shit that we have heard millions of times before. I know that I’m gonna be hated for this but that’s the truth guys & gals, so you’d better respect it.
Anyhow, that alternative, psychedelic, garage/punk, noisy, indie pop/rock music amalgam is OK for teenagers but it lacks (inspiration) in many levels. The songwriting is very simple and uninspired as well as the performances… at times I thought I was listening to a teenager band rehearsing, but I guess that how things are with this band as well. It’s just that, for some reason (WTF!), they have a label to back them up, they tour and have built a fan base… honestly, I do not think they have any (serious) album sales. Another trend that’s gonna pass sooner or later.
The problem is that when you see well-known producers/sound engineers like Joe Chicarelli (White Stripes, The Shins, The Strokes) and Carlos de la Garza (Bleached, M83, Tegan and Sara) working with such bands, you know that something’s very wrong with the music industry and things ain’t gonna end up well in due course. In any case, if you’re not a teenager who thinks they know about good music, do deal with any of the countless great bands that are out there and they are usually overlooked…
