This is the self-titled debut solo album by Bruce Soord, the front man, producer & songwriter behind The Pineapple Thief. Bruce has written, played, recorded & produced all the tracks here. Some additional guitars are played by Darran Charles (Godsticks).

Some may ask if this work sounds like The Pineapple Thief albums or if Bruce follows a different music direction than the one with his main band. Well, the answer is complicated. I’d say it’s a bit of both… yes & no. Bruce does follow the music path that’s influenced by Pink Floyd & Porcupine Tree (Steven Wilson) in particular, as he does in his main band, but he also explores a softer, popier and acoustic side of his. This album is quite laid-back, smooth and easy-listening. The sound is crystal clear and soft… excellent in every part.

Generally, the debut solo work from Bruce is a very delicate, elegant & easygoing album. There are some tracks that could have easily been featured on an album by The Pineapple Thief but that ain’t anything new. The only track that feels out of place (but it’s nice overall) is “The Odds”, which is somewhat funk-o-pop and too “cheerful” & weird for Bruce’s style. Anyhow, I do think that the fans of TPT and Bruce in general will find this album rather pleasing. Either way you see it, it’s a nice appetizer for the new The Pineapple Thief and it won’t be long before it’s released…
