Sumia
Until We Shine Again
Secret Entertainment
2014
Sumia is a newcomer which comes from Finland. About 3 years after they took shape, they released their debut full-length album “Until We Shine Again”. Following the modern sound of our time and blending garage rock, alternative rock, pop-rock, melodic hardcore, punk-pop and a few electro elements together, they did seem to have a certain plan on their mind but I think they got lost along the way a bit.
I’m not very keen on modern pop-rock music in general… but I kinda believe that albums from this kind of music need to be less than 47+ minutes on the whole. It’s very easy to lose the “pace” and become tedious in the blink of an eye. So, better keep it short and safe. This is what happens with Sumia at times. I know this is their debut release and they will fix some mistakes in the future… if they take “constructive reviews” such as this in regard and they do not believe the “big words” of their followers who say that they are already successful, great, Rock stars etc. Music nowadays is a very harsh place for all musicians and bands in general. Anyhow, Sumia needs a somewhat more updated sound, better and more memorable hooklines and a tad of originality… especially the latter wouldn’t minded me at all… quite the contrary.
