Sound Storm
Vertigo

2016
Sound Storm is a quite symphonic power metal band with some gothic undertones. “Vertigo” allegedly is going to be, apart from a rock album, a TV-series realized by Grey Ladder in association with DImago Cine Stuff under the direction of Taiyo Yamanouchi, w/o a certain outlet for those episodes being confirmed or international.
Their third overall album, engineered by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, After Forever, Ayreon, etc.), is steps up slightly from the rather good “Immortalia”, but despite its guitar work being pretty great, the whole comic book mash up with strained symphonic power somehow sounds too bloated for my tastes. It’s well enough done, to not deserve a trashing, but it also narrows the overall appeal a fair bit.
Also the “conceptual” nature of it makes songs hard to appreciate individually, with mady “The Dragonfly” being the single more memorable moment. Ambitious, but I’m not entirely sure, it manages to shoulder all that grandiosity…
