Possibly After Forever “left the scene” rather too soon and that makes us wonder what it could have happened if they were still around. Additionally, Floor Jansen, is way too talented and pretty in order to cross hands and wait. Even though this project (?) ain’t as good as the loyal fans of After Forever would like it to be, it’s still a pleasure to listen to this talented & beautiful woman.

Without straying from their debut, they’ve added various progressive and modern elements along with the “extreme” and the gothic ones; that hasn’t affected the band’s symphonic metal that much so, do not worry. It’s true that Floor sings wonderfully, the musicianship is good and the production is great. So far, so good. But what’s missing? Yeap, you’ve got it! The songwriting is, unluckily, bland, overdone, generic, too predictable and without any catchy melodies. There are some producers/songwriters that have dozens of such tracks on their shelves and they provide several bands if need be. That’s how it feels when listening to “Wild Card”. Moreover, the cover artwork is mild as well!

You see, if it weren’t for Floor and there wasn’t a big label to support this album and band/project, then none would have dealt with it that much neither would it have gotten praising reviews by the “unbiased & reliable” pro (web) press. Unfortunately, “Wild Card” doesn’t only leave much to be desired but it’s so tiresome that it leaves a question: should this band/project go on from now on…?
