“Night Electric Night” is a part of the past now as Deathstars have released their fourth full-length studio album entitled “The Perfect Cult”. Gothic, industrial metal had never been my cup of tea and it was with resignation that I agreed to listen to it and a write a review (the editor in chief virtually extorted a promise out of me, you know… to remain unbiased). Honestly speaking, it was a turn-up for the books!

The band has followed the same efficacious recipe to bring out a noteworthy album which will give instant gratification to the diehard fans of the genre and simultaneously introduce Deathstars to a much wider audience. Hair raising but very well turned lyrics, catchy refrains and ample musical tempos all surrounded by adept performances and a cloak of shadowy atmosphere. Fewer eccentricities notwithstanding, Deathstars manage to keep the listener inside the vicious circle of oddity. Vocalist Whiplasher states: “all the tracks are about our lives. Each song is a reflection on a situation or a topic that deals with our experiences, usually from a jet black perspective”.

As you might already know, there are 13 tracks to whoop it up in the CD so long as you purchase the limited edition digi-pack; otherwise you’ll have to make do with just 10 songs and deprive yourself of 3 bonus tracks, two of which are remixes and the other one an 8-bit version of “All The Devil’s Toys” by Skinny. Particularly compelling: “Explode”, “Fire Galore”, “All The Devil’s Toys”, “Ghost Reviver”, “The Perfect Cult”, “Bodies”, “Temple of the Insects” and “Noise Cuts”. Highly recommended for the genre’s paramours as well as the ones who dare enter their dusky world…
