Blackmore’s Night
All Our Yesterdays
Frontiers Music Srl
2015
New studio album for Blackmore’s Night, two years after “Dancer and the Moon”. Once again we get some nice folk acoustic pop tracks, with fine melodies and some great performances. Candice’s voice is wonderful as always and the one & only Ritchie still manages to send chill down our spine with his guitar, when he goes electric. I miss Ritchie’s electric days so much and, in truth to be told, Ritchie owes his fans another hard rock album. Can you hear us Ritchie? We want Rainbow back now! Damn it’s been 20 years since the last Rainbow album!
“All Our Yesterdays” is an OK album which takes the listener on a music journey through the folk & traditional melodies of the European countries. Nothing that you haven’t heard before from the band itself, with many clichés but with good song arrangements. The album contains fours covers: “Allan Yn N Fan” by Die Geyers, “Long Long Time” by Linda Ronstadt, “Moonlight Shadow” by Mike Oldfield and “I Got You Babe” by Sony & Cher. The production is clear and full.
If you like Blackmore’s Night’s previous albums then I see no reason why not like the new one too. I know that the band does not excite anymore and that’s probably cuz it has done its circle and Ritchie needs to close that chapter and move on. For instance, the few electric moments here, “Darker Shade of Black” & “Where Are We Going from Here”, are the ones which make a difference on the album and make us more impatient for a new hard rock album by Ritchie. Personally, I can’t think of any good reason why Ritchie should keep producing albums with Blackmore’s Night and not return to his beloved rock roots. Doesn’t he also feel nostalgic about his rock days as much as we do?! I dare not think that he does not…
