Model Spotlight of the Month
Hello Liz, introduce yourself to our readers!
L: Hi, my name is Liz, I’m a German metal vocalist and alternative / tattoo model.
You’re mainly a singer, but you seem to have taken up a gig of modeling (alt, goth, clothes etc.). Tell us more about both and how the latter came to be?
L: I’m a full-blood musician, all I do is music related and that’s how I want it to be. I love recording songs, performing on a stage lets the blood pump through my veins and that’s all I need from life. I also started modeling a couple of years ago as a hobby, first to help to promote the clothing brand of a friend, then another and so I received more and more offers. I got to work with some amazing photographers lately and did some really breathtaking shootings in rad locations, such as an abandoned theme park, a left asylum or a strip club (soon to come). I do modeling cause it is fun, I like to experiment with new stuff. But my main focus is and has always been my music.
You just departed a band you were in and recently debuted an album with just this month. Care to explain why and what will your next steps be?
L: Yeah that’s right. I was the vocalist in German thrash metal band Dying Gorgeous Lies for almost a decade. We released our third LP “The Hunter and the Prey” in March this year. Well, to say the least, it’s been amazing and exciting years for me in this band and I learned almost everything I know about music in this time. But people and visions about a project change, and so it was the best for everybody to move on and go separate ways. I wish the guys all luck and success in the world, we don’t split in anger.
Concerning singing, were you always into extreme stuff, or did you start more traditionally ie through a conservatory etc.?
L: I always loved metal and screaming/shouting/growling is in my eyes a very extreme but at the same time highly emotional way to express yourself. What many people don’t know is that I also do clean vocals. I work with 3 different vocal coaches, in completely different styles of music. I’m planning on showing more of the clean singing site too in the future. I don’t wanna limit myself to one style or one genre.
Do you think that after the Nightwishes + 2nd MK Arch Enemies of the world the whole metal scene opened up way more to women taking the center of the stage?
L: I never understood why, but this business used to be very masculine dominated. I’m happy that this changed decades ago. There are a lot of amazing female artists out there too. Nowadays I don’t think there is much difference between male and female vocalists anymore. “Female fronted” is also not a genre or subgenre of metal – at least not from my perspective. If your band plays thrash metal it’s thrash metal, no matter if a girl or a boy holds the microphone.
How does this make you feel, what’s your experience from being in the scene? Have people treated you properly? Do you think that certain girls tend to exploit their own sexuality as means to promote themselves/bands?
L: Well, I’ve experienced a lot of things during my time in the scene, in good and bad ways and no, I have not always been treated properly. I’ve seen women getting used but also some women hiding their talent behind their bodies. Of course sex sells… but music is about so much more than just that. I always feel sorry if girls put too much value and pressure into their looks and too less into what they got to say. I always loved being the singer of a metal band though.
Do you think that there’s a shift in the way male/female interrelations in society are perceived (both with positive and negative connotations) and do you think that affects things ranging from equality, to legislation and general sociopolitical standards?
L: This is a really sensitive topic. But I don’t really think that so much has changed, we just give it other names. We are talking about feminism but on the other hand girls get slutshamed when they have a natural attitude towards sex. We live in a society where girls are afraid to post a natural picture of themselves without 100 filters on Instagram! It’s good that women start talking openly about sexual abuse and harassment but there is so much more work to do.
What makes a woman cute/attractive/sexy according to you?
L: That’s not about women only, also men: I admire talent and passion for what they do. And it doesn’t matter in what you’re good, as long as you live it.
What’s your best asset (looks wise)?
L: Probably the most superficial question that I’ve ever answered, but I personally like my eyes.
Which was the strangest pick-up line a guy has used to approach you?
L: I’ve received a lot… and just saying… vegan jokes don’t work to impress a vegan girl and I’ve never met one girl that was happy about receiving dick pics from a stranger…
What’s the weirdest photo shooting you’ve ever done so far?
L: I mostly do weird photo shootings, cause normal shoots are boring. I’ve shot in some really rad locations, like this gothic shooting in an abandoned tuberculosis clinic.
What is the weirdest advice you’ve ever given or gotten? In regards to relationships/sex/music?
L: What’s the best advice in all three fields is “just be yourself”. If you pretend to be something that you are not it will sooner or later turn against you.
Who’s the sexiest Rock Star of all time (male & female)?
L: I have a thing for Nikki Sixx!
What’s the best city/country you’ve ever been to and why?
L: I’ve toured the United States in 2017 as support for Testament and Sepultura and I absolutely fell in love with that country. I’m a huge fan of nature and I loved landscapes like Arizona, also cities like San Francisco or LA… I’m going back there soon! ?
What kind of music do you like and which is your beloved band/artist?
L: I listen to a variety of genres, but of course I’m mostly a metal and rock girl. Right now I’m on some weird kind of 80s trip, I found this Spotify playlist with 80s hard rock and I listen to it all the time. I also listen to bands like Slipknot, Trivium, Kreator… and many many more.
What language is the most sensuous?
L: It’s not the language that makes a word sensuous, it’s mostly the person saying it. I have a thing for languages, so I find something in almost every language. If I had to decide, I’d probably say Spanish.
If you could travel through time, where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
L: I’d probably travel back to the 50s, cause I totally love the music and the style of that time.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
L: Empath, creative and overthinker…
