Another matter that caught my attention was that thing about (smart)phones on live shows, a fact that was brought up by Alicia Keys. Well, from now on, your (smart)phone will be locked-up on any Alicia live show. I like the idea of the phone-free zone, especially at a live show or a festival. I can see that people nowadays cannot be without their (smart)phone for a sec or so but there are so many things that we lose when we decide to “live” and “see” things only through our (smart)phones. For instance, it’s outrageous to go to a festival or a live show and watch the whole show through your phone’s tiny screen, without interacting with other fans around you or the musicians on the stage and so on. Why attend a live show in the first place? Just sit on your couch and wait for some to “upload’ the whole show (or parts of it with “shitty” quality and sound to watch them on YouTube!) That’s the “modern way of doing things”… and I do not fancy it at all.
I remember a time when we attended live shows or festivals to interact with other people, find some (old) friends or ours and be part of the show that the artists/bands were giving at the specific time. We didn’t care about phones or anything else. Our full attention was on the show, the musicians and the music. Nothing else mattered to us at all.
Nowadays, things are way different. Youngsters and not only go to live shows just to “record” the show or certain parts of it so as to “upload” it later on the web and share it via the social media. It’s like they weren’t on that show whatsoever, for all they do is what they do every single day in their lives… they live though their phones, they think that’s the “modern way of living” and they believe they fancy it. They are like “tech-zombies” that they cannot do anything at all without being connected to the web! Really, there’s nothing more pathetic than that and I do not see where all these can lead us in the future. Wanna be a “tech-zombie” fine, but do not trouble those who do not wanna be like you and respect our desire to have a “phone-free zone” on specific events in our lives. I do hope that more artists & bands will follow Alicia’s example and save us from all those “garbage videos” which are uploaded every once in a while on YouTube.
Go out, have fun, interact with other people, talk, listen, feel and live… no, you cannot do all these things through your (smart)phone and your tablet or laptop. Stop being a friggin “tech-zombie” and if you can’t, just stop trying to transform the others around you into “tech-zombies”… this isn’t any kind of “freedom”, but a prison cell without any visible bars… think twice and act properly!
