It’s to wonder how the major & much heralded music magazines & webzines support, advertise & promote various bands & artists that we – the common people, the lowly digital music press – despise, loathe, mock & dislike generally. What do they see that we don’t? What do they get and we cannot get it? Certainly, those press guys are wiser, more beautiful, smarter, more skilled, experts, geniuses, professionals & have a better music taste than the rest of us, no doubt about it. They are truly to be loved & followed by the untrained, irrelevant & easily confused music masses.Yeah, I know that their talent to baptize every newcomer – which is surprisingly supported by a big label – the new Led Zeppelin, the new Sabbath, the new Beatles, the new Bob Dylan, the new AC/DC and the list goes on, is unlimited! The same goes for the acclaimed reviewers & the great interviewers for bands/artists that will most likely disappear in a decade the most. Then new “great discoveries” will surface and the game will go on endlessly. Why’s that especially if we consider the saying: scripta manent?! Well, the majority of people do forget easily & do not get what’s behind the lines. So many new – place whichever band’s name you wish – have been presented all these years… but where are they now? Which among them made that great career that can be compared to the aforementioned bands? Who offered anything new or groundbreakin’ to rock/metal music… instead of stealing & “copying” the same things again & again? Why people tend to buy, follow & support all these big music magazines/webzines who are supported & financed by the major music labels that create all music trends and manipulate 99% of the music press globally?!
This happens even today that the internet has given people the chance to search, avoid the tricks of the past & ‘discover’ bands & artists that do actually create music which is wonderful and need to be heard and supported by the music fans all over the world. The music ‘status quo’ that has been built all these years cannot be left aside that effortlessly. People do tend to follow the lights and be hooked by the fancy & huge advertisements. It’s amazing how people do not get bored of the same covers, the same interviews, the same reviews, the new discoveries – every once in a while – and the same ads inside the mags. If I sell thousands (or even millions) of albums then you will get some really good money & lots of ads. You help me, I help you. Easy & comprehensible. It’s a never-ending story…
PS: Thank God there are a few webzines/ezines that can do the dirty work, for as long as they can and have the strength. And when one goes another comes, so there will always be a handful of independent & free voices to express a few different opinions about things. It’s not possible to agree with everyone out there… or is it? When money talks, bullshit walks…
PS2: We wanna thank a very small number of bands & indie music labels that really support the whole independent & unrestricted nature of Grande Rock and help us go on. And of course a big ‘thx’ to all of our loyal readers/visitors all these years! We can promise that we will continue to have an independent and unattached point of view in music happenings…
PS3: This month’s editorial is dedicated to Dave Murray Brockie (a.k.a Oderus Urungus) of GWAR, who passed away a week or so ago. May he Rest In Peace.
