The Social Media Zombie Era...

GR logoWelcome Spring… even though the cold, the snow and the bad weather in general persists… there’s a feeling of renewal in the air due to the Spring coming. The day is becoming longer little by little while the night is inevitably becoming shorter.

I was wondering the other day… how can a band which according to its “FB likes” is considered to be a “successful one”… you know a band which has more than 8-10 thousand “Likes” can only have a couple of thousand views on its official video? One logical assumption might be that the “fans” who have “Liked” the page do not give a rat’s ass about the band and just “Liked” the page at a certain time for a specific reason and they do not deal with the band’s further plans/moves anymore. A second assumption might be that half (or more) of those “Likes” are “dead” for some time now. A third assumption might be that the majority of those “Likes” have been “bought” so they are (as I like to name them) “Zombie Likes”. Facebook has just been used as a example… Twitter, Instagram and so on is on the same list as well.

The same goes for those bands that have a couple of thousand “Likes” on their FB and more than 10-15 thousand views on their video page. That’s cool… but there are also “Zombie Views” too… so go figure. Technology revolution!

But what’s all that buzz? Why does every artist and band try so hard to gather “Likes”, “Followers”, “Views” etc. on their social network pages? Just to appear successful? To fool themselves? Their fans? The PR managers? Who? When the sales (psychical & digital) are so low, what’s the point in “having” thousands of “Likes” “Followers” and “Views”? And do not tell me that you get paid from the YouTube views” cuz you need more than 500 thousand “Views” to get a few dollars.

The whole “social network” thing has started fading day by day. Can’t you see it? It’s easy. People do not have the same ardor they had a few years back and that’s quite understandable. There’s nothing truly “new” to gain people’s interest and they have got bored doing the same things for years. That’s the major reason why MySpace has become a “zombie social network” with no real and actual traffic anymore. Guess which is next… FB already has lost much of its original power. Twitter is doing fine so far and Instagram is the most popular “social network” of all, as we speak. Possibly posting selfies (silly photos of one’s self) & boosting your ego and narcissism all the time is what people need these days as “loneliness” is the “new trend” while having thousands of followers and “digital friends”… What is that?!!

PS: This year is the 50th anniversary of Scorpions! That’s incredible! 50 years of rockin’ music! This was the main reason why the band didn’t call it a day and decided to release a new album which is very good overall. A big thx to Scorpions for rockin’ us for half a century! Rock on!!

PS2: The GR model for March is the alternative and sexy Tara Sarrionandia. Do not miss her spicy photos and witty interview as well…

PS3: This month’s editorial is dedicated to Rudy “Whiteshark” Vercruysse, a true metal brother and life fighter who stood with pride and fought cancer till his last day without quitting his beloved metal music for a sec. A huge respect to Rudy and to his band Ostrogoth. May He Rest In Peace…
