Captivated by the wonderful dim cover artwork… I was eager to listen to their music… I was hoping the music would fit the doomed, shadowy background of the artwork… and hopefully, I was pretty much nicely surprised by When Nothing Remains.

The band is coming from Sweden and was formed in early 2010 by Peter Laustsen (Nox Aurea, The Cold Existence, Rimfrost) and Jan Sallander (The Cold Existence). The music can be described as emotional, melodic, dark, atmospheric, heavy, doom, death metal… but there’s more to it than meets the eye… as it is inspired and very well produced and arranged. Bands like: My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Ablaze In Hatred, Swallow The Sun and Draconian… will cross your mind when listening to the album… but When Nothing Remains… are adding their own doomed, melodic ethereal touches to their music… making it more dusky and mesmerizing. The production is excellent… very clear and “rich”. The album was mixed and mastered by Johan Ericson (Draconian, Doom:VS and Shadowgarden) who has also handled the clean vocals.

You will need several listens so as to capture the cold, doomy atmosphere of the album… and enter the mysterious, emotionless, condemned place where everything’s shadow and dust. The lyrics will be your flashlight in this dusky place… while you’ll be searching for an exodus out of this damned sinister domain. You have to enter deep inside this dark realm… for having a chance to come up clean after your personal catharsis... or you will be forever lost in the impassive paths of the netherworld…

The amazing doomed artwork… is showing the Charon waiting in his chariot for her ghost… as she’s leaving him and the up world… so as to enter the Underworld forever… an instant pic as the “Tears”… drop from his eyes… while saying the last farewell. Follow When Nothing Remains in the shadowland if you wanna taste the dramatic fated depressing music… that rules in Hades…

As, they say on their official FB page, they are already working on the next release which is gonna have some more female vocals. By making the songs shorter at times and adding more clean male & female vocals they can easily deliver a new album that will amaze us. This release is essential for the friends of the aforementioned bands…

PS: This is, probably, the best cover artwork of the year…
