Spin Doctors
If the River was Whiskey
Ruf Records
2013
If you were a teenager in the 90’s you might remember the Spin Doctors’ only ever hit, “Two Princes”. To be honest, I didn’t even know that they were still together, let alone releasing new music. Turns out they have released six more albums since 1991’s “Pocket Full of Kryptonite”. Their newest album is called “If the River was Whiskey” and it serves as reminder of the fact that the Spin Doctors are and probably will always be a one hit wonder.
There is not much that needs to be said about “If the River was Whiskey”, it’s a bad album. It’s a blues rock record without any heart or soul. I have listened to it twice, and as hard as I tried, I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities. It’s a poorly written one, it’s outdated and it’s utterly indifferent.
The only thing I can say about it is that I hope the band had a good time composing and recording “If the River was Whiskey”, because to my ears all the songs fall flat and I didn’t have any fun listening to it.
