OK this is how things should be from now on – after listening to this album. I’ll start asking for allowance for dangerous and unhealthy mental work from several bands & labels! That’s all! They can do their shit but I shouldn’t be the one to face the music!

Now back to the album. I wasn’t aware of Seven That Spells (and how happy I was back then!)… now that I’m aware all that happiness has gone away. This band was formed in 2003 and this is their 11th release so far! I’ll be damned! It’s truly awful to experience that “neo-retro” prog thing every once in a while, where anything from the late 60s and early 70s must sound cool, progressive, innovative and awesome.

Krautrock was an avant-garde, experimental, progressive & psychedelic movement which took place in Germany in the late 60s. A few great acts which made this kind of music more popular were Amon Düül II, Can & Ash Ra Tempel among others. Hence, what Krautrock has to do with Seven That Spells… is another “bizarre” story!

First of all, Seven That Spells do not play Krautrock. They wish they did… but they do not! Secondly, this isn’t 70 psychedelic prog rock at best! It’s a boring, repetitive, unimaginative & monotonous thing which can easily cause you headache, migraines and other mental illnesses. The band has a “music idea/theme” (WTF!!!) and tends to recycle it for about 5-6 minutes… and here ya go! You’ve got a “psychedelic” track ready! So friggin easy! Wanna try it? I warn not to! Then they’ve got an 18minute track! What the heck – any krautrock/prog rock band which respects itself should have long – tiresome – tracks. I thought this is it! I won’t take 18 minutes of the same thing on and on! To my surprise, it had a couple of different themes (that’s what I call progressive huh!!!) with lots of “experimental” noise features… or else progressiveness at its best!!!

“The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock: IO” is a destruction of the actual Krautrock music. One should not take this thing seriously; they’d better try to listen to the real Krautrock bands of the 70s to have an idea about that kind of music. The only thing that’s true in the album title is the “death of Krautrock”… Seven That Spells did put another nail on Krautrock’s coffin!
