As of recent and due to the fact, that good releases came few and far in between, in an ocean of mediocre releases every month, where hobbyist reviewers with “blogs” will write, whatever the #$#$#, they want and double-chinned German metal warriors, with photoshoped flames behind them, will try to find solace in their penile size tragedy, by listening to song about battles, swinging swords etc. and other such homoerotic, baby oil covered shenanigans, I begun to look very much into 60s and 70s psych and prog. I’m no expert and I tend to deviate towards the more structured, or prog/kraut works, although I do remain critical of a lot of these “masterpieces”… but sometimes will even go for the occasional trippy “one” ie Brainticket at their most bizarre etc…
At any rate… Californian’s Sacri monti, come forth with a buzzing heavy psych album with long, jam like compositions, that have some nice fuzzy loose riffing and sound like they were recorded inside a tank in the 70s, with superbly low quality microphones. If I had done a ton of drugs, right now, I’d be into complete atonement with the cosmos and I’d probably find some nice licks in “Glowing Grey” as the greatest thing ever… Not to be unfair, there’s some nice ideas in “Slipping fFrom the Day” as well, but the intentionally badly recorded vocals, are a detriment, every time I try to enjoy the music... which in all its acidity, can be enjoyable at times… Sacri Monti are best at their most instrumental and while the ardent follower of this stoned out new-psych scene, might find them quite enjoyable, I can’t say that I fully share that view.
