The Greek scene has been on the rise for a while and with an increasing rate, Greek musicians who work sufficiently seem to have escaped the confines of the country to tour and even release with foreign bands or to even export, the country’s metallic goods, other than the older, extreme metal, entries, some of which have still persisted, the passage of time, remaining ever popular and others probably slowly being swallowed by lethe.

Sacral Rage is a fairly new band, formed only in 2011 with only a promo and an EP released previously. They seem to have a rather particular style, which owes a lot to Watchtower, Toxic, Lizzy Borden, early Sanctuary, Annihilator, King Diamond’s excessive style and Deadly Blessing. Their singer persistently, launches into some insane and sometimes slightly questionable falsettos, that are sometimes a little annoying to be honest, but, I suppose, it goes with the “territory”. The band is fairly technical and delivers rather well, with the only thing irking me, being the rather thin and retro-production. While, again due to the style, that would be a fair assumption, to make, I’m still sure the whole result could have been a bit more “full” in that respect. Don’t get me wrong, the production is not bad, it just doesn’t have a very full sound and that makes the sound extremely treble, so unless, the songwriting is off the charts, this is not necessarily something I like, even if I like a good spectrum in a band’s sound-scope and in general high pitched vocalists...

The band’s lyrics are about horror, the supernatural, dark fantasies etc. and are a good match for their over the top, technical thrash. With songs such “En Cima del Mal”, “Lost Chapter E. Sutrama”, “Panic in the Urals”, “A Tyrannous Revolt”, Sacral Rage have probably written one of the most-inspired releases of 2015. This is probably gonna be a case of love it or hate it, for most people, because of the vocals. The style, is an acquired taste, that will probably annoy some and make some people crack a smile... if you take away, the gimmick, of the ultra-high-thin falsettos the band/songs are not too bad, as songs like “Panic in the Urals” or “A Tyrannous Revolt” and the two “chapter” songs display, but I just think they over use, the same formula and as such become a bit monotonous, even with all the riffs and “changes” and they totally over-do it with the vocals, which might work either for or against them, in the long term. We shall see.

Good luck in trying to decode and understand the illusions of this infinite void and if you are not driven mad, then, you’re in luck! Not bad, but for those that have tastes that are rather “particular”... Still better than the 50 shades of crap any day though, for sure!
