My Darkest Days - Sick and Twisted Affair

These Canadian modern rockers had surprised me nicely with their self-titled debut album back in 2010. They enjoyed days of fame and fortune since then, as they appeared on the “Saw: The Final Chapter” soundtrack, they hit #1 spot on Billboard’ s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and on FMQB’s Active Rock… they went gold in Canada and the list goes on. Their single “Porn Star Dancing” is indeed a very tasteful tune, mixing rock music and porn together… gorgeously. I had them in mind like a modern, more popish side of Steel Panther… without going too deeply or being so keen and “offensive” as the cock/porn hard rock masters. Nonetheless, their self-titled debut is a very good modern rock album.

 

I was hoping for something at least equal to the debut… not to say better… ‘cuz they’re now in their prime… but I was proven so wrong. I had a clue due to the single “Casual Sex” which is OK… but too cheesy and popish… although it has a great porn-like uncensored video… but I was hoping that the album would have several nice songs. In my disappointment, the new album is like a bad remake of the debut… the songs are so much alike… and they sound like they’re some leftovers from the previous album. No imagination at all… not a single step forward… just ordinary, pointless, non-original and generic popish rock tunes… with no identity. Why? I honestly do not get it. They are on their best phase and instead of delivering something truly strong and rockin’… they’ve chosen to release this cheesy… pop/rock dull & uninspired album. OK, it’s their career on the line… but I do not see them becoming anything more than another gay modern rock band… that think they rule the world and enjoy daily fame. They can fix things… but if they do well sales-wise… then I do not see why they should not… copy themselves again and again presenting uninteresting and bland songs all the time. Sorry, this just won’t do me anything at all… if you wanna try them out then better get their debut album.
