Mellowtoy is one of those bands that were influenced by the late 90s/early 00s new music trend. They were formed in 2002 and this is their fourth full-length release. The band blends metalocre, nu-metal, alternative metal, hardcore & rapcore elements with various extreme and melodic ones.
Almost 5 years have passed since their previous album and the band strikes back under a new label this time. The album was produced by Marco Coti Zelati (Lacuna Coil), mixed by Kyle Hoffman (P.O.D, Lacuna Coil, Bush, Zebrahead) and mastered by the famous Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Metallica, Pantera, Deftones, Limp Bizkit). The sound is full, heavy and modern. There are also two special guest appearances on the album by Cristian Machado (Ill Nino) on the song “Chain Reaction” and Paolo Colavolpe (Destrage) on the song “Bright New World”.
The truth is that Mellowtoy do not bring anything new or fresh on the table. We’ve heard this stuff before numerous times. It’s OK especially for those who like modern, metalcore, alternative and a bit extreme stuff but it still ain’t something that will make those who do not fancy that specific music kind get anywhere near it…
