I rarely present any black metal albums on Grande Rock and I do that for the reason that too many untalented guys think that black metal is an easy and cool music to play. Thousands of shitty bands have formed throughout the years which has caused a major knockback to this very distinctive extreme metal genre. Lots of new albums are being released every month and 90% of them are only copying the big bands of the genre or they sound so poor & pitiful that you cannot hear them if you’re sober.

Some groups can be exempt from the mass, but it’s not easy to distinguish a good band out of thousands of clowns out there. Homoferus is exception to that status quo… and comes from the matrix of black metal music, the legendary Norway. Homo ferus is a term invented in the eighteenth century that refers to minimal or abnormal socialization of some individuals, resulting from isolation from human society. In its more extreme form, the isolation from human society is believed to be compounded by interaction with wild animals - wolves, bears, and others like that. Obviously, the word “Homoferus” has a misanthropic background that leads to self-quarantine. Undeniably, that’s a really good name for a black metal band…

Homoferus consists of Nil Dilian – guitars & vocals, Neon Noem – keys & vocals and Dan – drums… accompanied by a session guitarist and bassist. The band’s black metal music is embellished with lots of melodic, atmospheric, symphonic and a few death metal elements. They have been influenced by Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Old Man's Child, Carpathian Forest, Taake, Watain etc. but they also managed to release something entirely gratifying that has the band’s trademark. All the black metal fans that are keen on the aforementioned bands will be taken aback while listening to “Herocly”. Moreover, it will be appealing to those who fancy great black depressed symphonic melodic metal music. The production is very heavy and powerful, but that’s no surprise, as the album was mixed and mastered by the acclaimed Dan Swanö. The album is already being released independently by the band… in the meantime they’re also looking out for a label.

If this band gets a big promotion and advertising they can make a difference in the black metal scene… if they keep up delivering the same beautifully bizarre dark music in the future… for you do not only need to release a very good debut album, but you must also have musical consistency. Probably, their next album will find them under a metal label that will secure them all those things that are needed in order to succeed in our time. “Herocly,” is a stunning black, symphonic, melodic, atmospheric metal debut… undoubtedly one of the best black metal debuts that I came across in the last decade… if you like this kind of music do not miss it for no matter what…
