Dream Brother is a Finnish band, that was a long time in the making, apparently the first “ideas” about this album started taking form in 2008, with singer Samuel Sjoman moving to Helsinki from the city of Jyvaskyla in Central Finland. He later met drummer Teijo Jamsa (ex-Killer Aspect) in Thailand where they both were on holiday and they sort of decided to collaborate, which they did, over the next few years, writing more songs, than some early demos that Samuel had. In 2012, the “band” with the aid of their friends Mikko Nikula (ex-Guava) on bass and Mikko Virta (My First Band, PMMP) on guitar and their producer Teemu Aalto who also worked as a session musician they went on and recorded what was to become their eponymous debut. They later lost their producer/who had been made permanent and changed the bassist with a more permanent member in the form of “Jarkkis” Jarkko Toivanen who joined them.
The long time coming debut, that culminates the efforts of all those years, is an indie pop/rock, hybrid that owes a lot to bands like Nirvana and Jimmy Eat World, but also has a touch of Brit pop/rock about it, with slight nuances of bands like Muse and Travis thrown in... It’s somewhat brighter sounding that most of these and well performed, but it sounds slightly trite and derivative in places. Still, songs like the semi-acoustic rock ballad “Halfway”, the almost U2 sounding “LoveHateLove” or the sparkling “The One” are not bad at all, for the given style...
