Calling on Angels
Red Rocket Entertainment
2012
“Calling on Angels” is the long-awaited full-length debut album for the fans of the band and those who are into alternative/modern rock, especially after DoryDrive presented an award winning EP in 2011 and opened for Hinder at Summerfest. For those who are not familiar with the members, the band is: Mathieu Nevitt on vocals, Tom LaBrosse and Henry Koller on guitars, Nick Mendini on bass and Joey Zak on drums.
Actually… Creed, Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge and Nickelback kept on coming into my mind while I had been listening to the album. In reality modern or pop rock is not something I am eager to be listening to, but the whole result of “Calling on Angels” is quite nicely heard in case one just wants something easy on the ear. Most of the tunes here are soft & simple but Mathieu Nevitt truly has a fairly catchy way of delivering the songs plus, he is surrounded by musicians who give it their best shot. The finest songs here are: “Never Easy”, “Better Part Of Me”, “My Heroine”, “Heaven Falls From Angels” and “Your Gravity”. “Dirty Diana” is one of the most recognizable songs on earth and I believe that fans of the genre will probably enjoy it. Individually speaking, I go for the original one.
All in all, if you are into the aforesaid bands and truly revel in listening to this kind of music, trying out DoryDrive would be a good idea. Conversely, if those bands are capable of bringing you a thumping headache, steer clear of them!
