Black Hole Generator is the brainchild of the multi-instrumentalist, vocalist & producer Bjørnar Nilsen (Vulture Industries). This project made its debut back in 2006 with the “Black Karma” EP. Now ten years later, I guess Nilsen found some time to record his “strange music ideas” for the debut full-length album of Black Hole Generator. None can blame Nilsen that he ain’t making “weird music” and that his ideas are quite ordinary.
While I was listening to the album, bands such as Dødheimsgard, Thorns, Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Anaal Nathrakh & Virus came to mind. I’m sure that you get the idea of what’s going on here. Atmospheric, avant-garde, industrial, extreme, dark & cold black metal with proggy tendencies is what you’ll get as soon as you push “play”. The album also features Ice Dale (Enslaved, Audrey Horne) on guitars, Gjermund Fredheim (Taake, Orkan) on lead guitars on 3 tracks and Dag Terje Andersen (ex-Taake) on additional guitars. The production is great for this specific kind of music… I guess nothing could go wrong with Nilsen on charge.
I do not know how many are missing some of the aforementioned bands or are in general into this kind of music but “A Requiem for Terra” totally addresses them. If you happen to fancy this music style, then go for it without any second thoughts… you’ll revel in it for sure!
