Last year Tchort and BloodPervertor left Carpathian Forest to set up a new band called The 3rd Attempt. Following a series of online auditions, the duo chose Odemark (ex-Midnattsvrede) as their vocalist and was joined by Tybalt (Fortid, Den Saakaldte) on drums. A year later their debut drops, and it’s inspired by the black metalish, rock ‘n roll of Darkthrone’s latter era as much as it is from old-school black metal and some thrash.
In truth, I am quite the puritan and against black metal bands trying to use cleaner vocals etc., because only rarely are their singers quite capable… thankfully here only the opening track “Torment Nation” is plagued by this issue, while thankfully the rest of the album is predictably treading the steps of Carpathian Forest with a bit of latter day Mayhem thrown in for good measure.
Fairly decent debut for the fans of all things Norwegian. If it didn’t have that silly black n roll influence in places, it might even have been a little better.
