Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten turned sixty in January of this year, and now that the legendary rocker has entered his Golden Years, he’s apparently getting too old for unabashedly brazen hobbies. According to the rock legend himself, since turning 60, playing bingo has appealed to him more than causing Anarchy. Speaking to The Mirror, he said that his hobbies include “a round of bingo”, and that he likes it when “bingo!” is shouted during the game. “I’d rather play a round of bingo than anything else”, he added. Real name John Lydon, Johnny also reported that he is adapting to how his body is changing with age.
Johnny Fully Armour:
One of the main things the Sex Pistols frontman noted about growing older was how he’s adapting to physical changes. Since his beaming smile began to deteriorate with age in recent years, Johnny decided to forgo traditional dentures and opt for an unusual dental alternative instead. He told The Mirror that his teeth are all titanium now, and that anybody who tries to punch him in the face will ‘lose their knuckles’, referring to himself as ‘Johnny Fully Armour’. But, even his tough teeth don’t prevent him from taking up hobbies that tend to appeal more to seniors, as he has become a huge fan of bingo halls and online bingo sites.
Mellow Music Taste:
Johnny also admitted that as he’s grown older, his taste in music has become a lot more mellow. Famed for hard-hitting rock hits such as “Holidays in the Sun” and “God Save the Queen” with the world-renowned British rock band the Sex Pistols, today, Johnny prefers rocking out to a genre of music that appears to be the total opposite of what he’s been into so far – disco music. During his interview with The Mirror, he declared that he “loves the Bee Gees, and b**locks to those who don’t!”.
Rock Antics:
Although Johnny seems to be enjoying his Golden Years by taking part in hobbies that tend to attract the older generation and adapting his music taste accordingly, fans will be glad to hear that every now and then, he does like to revert back to his punk rock antics. However, his wife of thirty years, Nora Forster, appears to have developed a unique strategy to keep the rock legend in hand when his antics get too much. He recalled: “I fell through the front door and passed out. I didn’t close the door, so she woke me and hit me with a frying pan”.
Appearance:
Along with his new hobbies and taste in music, Johnny also appears to have toned down his appearance and begun dressing more appropriately for his age. Recently, he was spotted shopping in Los Angeles, where there was no sign of his rock-themed tattoos and his hair was a natural, a far cry from the punk rock hairstyles he would sport in his younger days. Wearing a green shirt, shorts and plain black trainers, the only hint to Johnny’s punk rock past was the hooped earrings he sported for the trip and the ‘ROTTEN’ on the back of his shirt, showing he’s not quite ready to give it all up for good just yet.
Johnny Rotten was the Sex Pistols’ vocalist from 1975-1978 before the group split up, when he went on to form his own band, Public Image Ltd. Since the 1980’s, there have been calls for Lydon to be knighted for his services to music, in particular the Sex Pistols. However, it’s unsure whether or not the rock star would accept this honour, as he has previously turned down an MBE.
