Yeaaaah!!! It’s finally Saturday! And I contracted some rock fever, so I want to go out and watch a show and what’s more perfect than going to a Haunted show?! After a long time and many changes within the ranks of the band, The Haunted returned to Greece with our beloved Marco Aro presenting us their new album called “Exit Wounds”! Acid Death who’ve been around since 1989 (wow!) are an amazing Greek death metal band who were opening the show for the Swedes! Anticipation was high about what was going to happen! I couldn’t wait for the show(s) to begin!
Acid Death went on stage at about 9 o clock presenting us some songs of their new album called “Hall of Mirrors” including a few of their oldies like “Apathy’s Murder’s Hope”. I can really report from what I’ve heard that night, that their new album is probably gonna be pretty amazing! They concluded their performance giving us a great finale with the album’s title track “Hall of Mirrors”. Almost everyone was into it. It’s worthwhile mentioning that this wasn’t the first time that Acid Death and The Haunted shared the same stage. They have played together again in the past... so this felt just perfect as they had, warmed up the pretty full by that point Kyttaro Club for the Swedes. Quite a few people actually turned up. The place wasn’t jam packed, but it certainly felt and looked, like it was a well-attended show.
Finally the time that we all had been waiting for, came! The Haunted took the stage performing 2 songs from their new album “Exit Wounds” .They started the concert with the intro “317” and “Cutting Teeth” as the first proper song (which by the way, is one of my favorites of their new album!). Marco Aro was in perfect communication with the crowd that totally embraced his coming back calling his name over and over again. Sitting in front of the stage I just couldn’t help notice that probably because of that, Marco became so ecstatic that he kept hitting his forehead with the microphone until he started bleeding!?!... but I guess this made him be more brutal than ever!
So, starting with chronological order, from “The Haunted” album (1998) they performed “In-Vein”, “Undead” and “Bullet Hole”. (“Bullet Hole” wasn’t originally included in the set list but they played it anyway in order to please us!)
From “The Haunted Made me Do It” (2000), “Dark Intentions”, “Trespass”, “Bury Your Dead” and “Hollow Ground” were their nearly perfect song selections.
From “One Kill Wonder” (2003) we heard “D.O.A” which I can tell for sure that was one of the most blistering moments of the show!!! Where the entire crowd, went totally mad and mosh-pits, and crowd surfing were so wild that I could barely follow what was going on!
From their fourth album “Revolver” (2004) they performed “99”, “All against All” (with most of the crowd singing the lyrics of that particular song with them) and “No Compromise”.
From “The Dead Eye” (2006) they chose to perform “The Medication”, “The Flood”, “The Guilt Trip” and finally from their last album “Exit Wounds”(2014) except their opening songs “317” and “Cutting Teeth”, they also performed “Trend Killer”, “My Enemy”, “Time (will not Heal)” and “Eye of the Storm”!!! So no “Versus” or “Unseen” material, although the latter is not such a big problem, as it was probably the band’s lowest point.
The only thing that I can say in conclusion is that this concert was one of the greatest I have attended in the past 5 years. Not because of the crowd (that in my opinion could be even slightly bigger), but just because of the amazing feeling that this band provided during the performance! They really became one with the crowd and together, we reached metallic ecstasy.
The Haunted promised that they will return to Greece, soon! I guess we all wish that becomes a reality! I’m looking forward to seeing them again! The energy that The Haunted communicated on that night towards the crowd is indescribable through words, although... I must mention that we, the ladies, (yes I am a lady! -_- ) got our special “dedications” like “Hollow Ground” and “My Enemy”... wtf? Did any bitch hurt you?
