Overtures
Artifacts
Sleaszy Rider Records
2016
Overtures is a prog metal band that however tends to be a bit more energetic than the usual, prog ones, while not exactly being a power metal either. They balance between the two styles, without fusing the elements into one.
They have so far released another 3 albums and return with a new volume “Artifacts” that should be out at the end of May 2016. They seem to be quite capable and they are fairly interesting, but despite having honed their craft with constant touring including two high profile European tours with Threshold in 2014 and with Almah and Secret Sphere in 2013 and having this mastered by Sasha & Miro Paeth (Avantasia, Edguy, Kamelot, Epica) at Gate Studios and so on, are still a few steps behind the top bands of the genre… and a bit of more experience to be gained by a couple of band members in order to perfect their valiant performances.
There are quite a few tracks that are capable of holding the interest level high, like the dramatic “As Candles We Burn” or the proggier title cut, while the multifaceted “Teardrop” with its many guest vocalists as well as the re-imagined single “Savior” from “Entering the Maze” (a bit of a cheat to include it here too) are also noteworthy.
