Linda and the Punch is a pop/hard rock band that consists of (you guessed it) Linda and her band called The Punch. Linda is more than just a pretty 21-year-old girl; she is also pretty talented and possesses some pretty decent vocal abilities. As for The Punch, they’re clearly a bunch of well-trained musicians capable of carrying a tune. “Obsession” is the band’s debut album, featuring 11 vaguely rocking tracks ideal for radio-play.

The press release for “Obsession” describes the band’s music as “Pink meets Pat Benatar”. The songs are produced by Michael Voss (Casanova, Mad Max, Michael Schenker, Udo Lindenberg) and written by such names as Jeff Franzel (Taylor Dayne, NSync, Chuck Wicks), Steve McEwan (Robbie Willams, Foreigner, Eminem, James Blunt, Roger Daltrey), Herman Rarebell (Scorpions) and Tommy Denander (Paul Stanley, Swedish Teen Idol). So, what we have here is the perfect album for every young boy and girl out there to make a transition from pop to rock. I’m talking about easily digestible and catchy tracks with a chorus designed to get stuck in your head for hours and hours (“What a Shame”, “Wake up Dreaming of You”, “Bite” and “Lost For Words” to name a few).

Basically, the problem is what the album has to offer; most (if not all) tracks have this radio-friendly bubblegum mentality which doesn’t allow any surprises or any sort of originality. In other words, you get the feeling you’ve heard it all before.

However, totally discarding the whole thing would be a mistake. The truth is Linda is a pretty great vocalist that can deliver some impressive and emotional performances (with the exception of the cover of “Because the Night”).
