I can remember Nick, the guitarist of this band, toying around with the concept of putting out an album and giving out promotional EP’s almost as long as a decade ago, but facing lukewarm receptions or apathy by most people… fast forward ten years later, and several band members after and the band’s debut is finally out.

A muscular riff laden power metal, with vocals that don’t sound wimpy or tenor but gritty and commanding in what definitely must be Steve Bernado’s best vocal delivery to date and you got a “deadly scourge”, the “deadliest one” in fact.

With most of their songs concert-tested and fine-tuned, it’s no surprise that a lot of the songs on the album hit home and even close enough on the bulls-eye, some being narrow misses for a reason I can’t entirely put my finger on, but might be the somewhat “muffled” bass heavy production that sounds maybe a tinge more modern than it should.

The band however manages to pump out quite a few nice tunes like the scorching opener “Signal of War”, the rhythmical “My Race Won’t Last”, the very catchy “Between Harmony & Sorrow”, some sort of a single really, the heavy and crushing “Proselytize the Masses”, even the folk ballad “Shadow Spirit” complete with bagpipes. There are actually several tracks that combine the best of heavy “European” power metal, with select influences from the US school of power metal in there for good measure…

A not so unexpected, but rather well-done debut that despite its few flaws, seems to show a lot of promise on many levels.
