Although they were formed way longer before the grunge fashion broke out in the early 90s, Soundgarden were meant to be branded as a band of that era by most of the fans. Coming to nowadays, after a very long 16-year break Soundgarden decided to strike back with a new release. Even though I do not like that grunge era at all there were a few bands like Soundgarden that I used to listen to every now and then… besides that I like Chris Cornell’s rockin’ & expressive voice a lot.

To set it straight, this album just doesn’t do. If think that if they had never released it, nobody would have complained at all. No, it’s not awful and non-listenable but it has nothing to offer. Hence, what’s good in “King Animal”? The rockin’ & tight production and Chris’ vocals. The songwriting is so bland that makes you wanna puke. The simple rock, grunge, alternative song arrangements along with some heard-it-a-thousand-times-before riffs is so dull that it’s hard to listen to all the songs in the row. Are there any stand-out songs here? You’re probably kiddin’, right? Are there any dinosaurs left on planet earth? What did you say?!

It’s not only that but the album is rather long… about 51 minutes of boring, tiresome & uninspired grunge-rock-alternative music that can easily put you to bed. Sorry, but if the guys had been writing one good song every year or so, they could have come back with a very good album at least… but they chose not to do so. For that, I’ll just say it once again… “King Animal” just doesn’t do whatsoever…
