Snowfall
Cold Silence
Escape Music
2013
Snowfall is new band from Norway which was formed almost 3 years ago. Certainly, the guys on the band are not new to rock music in general, as the bassist PB used to be in Winter Parade, Lee Small in Shy/Phenomena and the drummer Perra Johnson in Coldspell.
The band’s 80s flavored hard rock with melodic rock &AOR passages is quite solid on the whole, while the musicianship is great. The production is crunchy & rockin’, even though I would prefer it to be a tad tighter & dynamic. Martin Kronlund (Hammefall, White Wolf, Mass, Gypsy Rose etc.) did the mixing & the mastering.
The guy who steals the show here is without any doubt Lee Small. His bluesy voice is once again very pleasant & warm. I think but for Lee, this CD would have been sunk into mediocrity. Don’t get me wrong… the guys are doing more than fine but there’s a major shortage of hooks and memorable melodies. If they take a better care of that thing then it will turn out to be, first & foremost, for their best interest in the future...
