Shakra have been releasing albums for almost 15 years now. One can say that they have always been in the shadow of their big rivals, Gotthard, but I think they are right after the best Swizz act, right? Of course, after the last things occurred with Gotthard none can be really sure that they will keep on hanging on what they have achieved for far. Shakra are waiting around to get a chance.

First of all, I must say that the Indian vocalist John Prakesh, who was introduced in the previous album “Back on Track”, is a very good singer and has given the band an extra thrust in every level. “Powerplay” picks up from where “Back on Track” left off… catchy hard rockers, fine melodies, raspy vocals and good riffs. The two ballads “Wonderful Life” (which is also released as a video) and “Too Good to Be True” are offering an extra “commercial attractiveness” to the album largely. Good hard rockers like: “Life is Now”, “The Mask”, “Dream of Mankind” & “Because of You” are concluding the “Powerplay” puzzle. The production is damn rockin’ and crunchy. Guitarist Thom Blunier has done an excellent job in every part!

“Powerplay”, has already entered the official chart in the band’s home country at position No. 1! I guess the first goal has been reached. Shakra is indeed a very good Swiss melodic hard rock band and deserves to gain a little more exposure I think. All these years they have been working hard and even though they had a low profile, they did things their way. Possibly this band is enjoying more popularity now than ever before… but it’s on their hand to go even further…

PS: Dude this ain’t Shak(i)ra without Shakira singing… take a closer look… hehe…  cheeky
