Once upon a time, there was a great Brazilian thrash metal band that made a name for themselves and taught the world how one can be successful and heavy at the same time without bartering their major “music principles”. That band has long gone and all that we have for over a decade now is a ghost of it.

It’s been 4 years since the previous release but nothing has changed really; the new album may have a few new additions on the music part but it doesn’t get away from the major problem that all Sepultura albums suffer from for years now… the lack of inspiration! Kisser cannot do much himself and he’s so alone without his ex-bros Max & Igor. This generic, modern thrash/hardcore/groove shit has been going on for so long and it cannot offer anything to anyone anymore. It seems that the 4-year hiatus between albums didn’t help at all. OK, there’s the instrumental “Iceberg Dances” that doesn’t sound like anything the band has done and it’s pretty nice but you need more than that in order to claim what was yours years ago and make the majority of your fans “trust” you again.

The production is great & heavy and has been done by the band along with renowned producer Jens Borgen (Soilwork, Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth), but that ain’t something new. It’s mandatory you have a superb production but you must also have the tracks so as to present a damn good outcome and Sepultura sucks big time on that part years now. I do not see how all this can end smoothly for the band; only if they decide to do something truly daring both for themselves and their fans, can things go in the right way again… but that needs guts!
