Scott Henderson
Vibe Station
Independent Release
2015
Scott Henderson is guitar virtuoso who needs no further introduction. He’s best known for his work with Tribal Tech in the early 80s. Scott is an extremely gifted guitarist who is mostly appreciated by other musicians and especially guitarists, that cannot reach his style so they just admire him.
“Vibe Station” is Scott’s fourth studio album which is released a decade after the release of the live album “Live!”. Scott has the skilled bass-player Travis Carltonand (Sara Barellies, Greg Bissinett, Mike Landau etc.) and the exceptional drummer Alan Hertz (Garaj Mahal, Jack Blades, Kit Walker, etc.) by his side. The album was produced, composed and mixed by Scott Henderson, recorded and also mixed by Alan Hertz and mastered by Joe Gastwirt. The production is amazingly smooth, clear and full.
Scott’s music is the epitome of “fusion”… as it blends rock, blues, jazz, country & funk with some eastern folk melodies. “Vibe Station” is a fully instrumental album with many guitar layers on each track. Scott said that the lack of vocals challenged him as a guitarist in order to write material which can be played in a vocal way on the guitar. It’s true that the statement above as well as his music can mostly be appreciated by musicians & guitarists, cuz every track here needs lots of repeated & careful listens. Nonetheless, if one dares try out new things then albums like “Vibe Station” have a lot to offer on the whole. Do not forget that we’re talking about a music amalgam which is not easy-listening neither is it meant for the airwaves. Additionally, the more you dive into this album the more it has to offer…but it does need confidence and perseverance. After all, Scott’s music has never been for the masses; it commonly satisfies a small elite of musicians/artists who can go beyond the surface of the music sounds… so be it!
