Savoldelli Casarano Bardoscia
The Great Jazz Gig in the Sky
MoonJune Records
2016
Musicians Boris Savoldelli on all vocals, vocal noises and electronics, Raffaele Casarano on saxes and electronics and Marco Bardoscia on double bass and electronics chose the hard way in presenting an “ultra-classic” album, the sacred “The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd, under their own musical prisma. So, the project that goes under the name Savoldelli Casarano Bardoscia releases “The Great Jazz Gig in the Sky”, which is not other than a re-arranged & re-imagined “The Dark Side of the Moon”. Not an easy task to complete and I’m sure not everyone will agree with the point of view of those three musicians.
Anyhow, the album features the guest appearances by Dewa Budjiana on guitars on “Us and Them”, WK569 on background sounds manipulation on “US and Them” and “Any Colour You Like” and Maurizio Nobili on reciter on “The Great Gig in the Sky” and “Eclipse”. The album was mixed, edited and mastered by Piero Villa at the Rumore Bianco Studio, Esine, Italy and produced by Savoldelli, Casarano & Bardoscia. The sound is smooth, full and clear on the whole.
Do not expect to listen to some “covers” of the well-known Floyd tracks here. As I said earlier, all the tracks have been re-worked and presented under the personal musical identity of the 3 musicians… the whole music outcome has an improvisation, jazz/fusion, ambient, electronic & progressive background. Not an easy-listening album but I’m sure the musicians will appreciate it more than anyone else.
