Reveries End
Edge of Dark Waters

Reveries End is a female fronted goth metal band quintet from Finland that has been around some five years or so, with “Edge Oof Dark Waters” being their debut, after a couple of demos. It really reminded me of very early Within Temptation (“Enter” era) and a little Theater Of Tragedy around “Velvet”. Obviously Sariina Tani, their singer, is not that good, but on the other hand she’s not bad either.
The template, for what one could do, was set out so many years ago and the Finns don’t mess with those tried and tested recipes, but try to follow them as best as they can. In an era when everyone strives for a fuller and more modern sound (the artist aforementioned included) the sound for which Reverie’s End are going sounds like an anachronism, albeit it’s interesting to see a new band taking that path and not, attempting to entirely “clone” what’s currently en vogue.
I’m sure they could grow into something quite interesting – after all they all seem to be pretty young, but while their debut leaves sufficient promise, without being something earth shattering. Things could go either way up or down. They are lucky to be in a place, where there is a bit of a scene and an infrastructure to support, young bands in their efforts… I guess time will only tell…
