Primary Slave - Another Mark Is Drawn

Primary Slave Another Mark Is Drawn cover

Unfortunately this release comes with a tragic story to tell. Primary Slave was formed in the late 90s by the guitarist Paul Allender (Cradle of Filth) but as soon as he rejoined Cradle of Filth the band continued with Mark Giltrow (vocals/guitar), Lee Dunham (guitar), Graham Lyons (drums) and David Palser (bassist) and managed to release the debut album, “Data Plague” in 2000. Combining elements from metal, alternative, industrial, nu-metal, modern, electronic etc. they set the basis for a further career.

Regrettably, things didn’t work out the way they wanted… for the mastermind, composer, vocalist & guitarist Mark Giltrow tragically passed away in 2006 in a motorcycle accident. Some of his work for the second release was saved in a hard drive (that was almost ruined) and thanks to Neale Dunham (Fifth Amendment guitarist), Horace Martin (Data Plague producer) and Chris Dunham (computer guru) it finally saw the light of day. I bet it needed many hours and studio time to bring together piece by piece all this music Mark had written all this time. The guys who did this deserve many credits.

Musically, Mark continued to deliver music close to the debut with lots of modern, nu-metal & alternative influences. Of course, the sound is not big but it’s OK… let’s not forget how hard it was to save and re-issue all this material. The album was completely financed by friends and family, grabbing cheap or free studio time where and whenever possible. There is a sense that much time has been spent on every part to try and maximize its impact. “Another Mark Is Drawn” is mostly like a tribute to the late Mark (R.I.P.) who left so suddenly and never had the chance to complete his music dream.

The album is available to download on www.primaryslave.com for just £1 for the entire 10-track album. You can also buy a Limited Edition Digi-pack CD, £11, with exclusive artwork by Primary Slave designer, Ian Foxon.
