The Pretty Reckless
Going to Hell
Razor & Tie
2014
Well, it takes more than a pretty face, blonde hair and a naked body on the cover to rock the block. Aside from all the Reckless-mania of the days, I have to admit that their sophomore album was better in certain aspects. Certainly, they can avoid the common pop-junk-mainstream culture of our time but that’s another story.
Taylor Momsen is pretty, sexy & talented. All those go along with what she and her band are offering. On the other hand, the whole thing has been done & presented by Joan Jett with much more importance magnitude, rockin’ attitude & originality almost 3 decades ago. Something like that was tried in the 00s by the cutie Avril Lavigne but she got lost in the cuteness, silliness, pop, trash & childish wannabe little hits. In any way, Taylor is a Joan & Avril mix in many ways.
Musically, The Pretty Reckless follows the trend of our time. Pop, acoustic, pop-rock, rock & roll & mainstream features which create an insipid, weak, feeble, spineless & indifferent musical outcome. The first 3 tracks were fine & rockin’ but as usual after that we end up listening to the same tiresome things that the major music industry offers us all day long. The participation of the pornstar Jenna Haze on “Follow Me Down” (she does some backing vocals) may be the most exciting and surely the spiciest moment here. A video, for the specific track, where we can see the two ladies play, serve, please & tease each other should be an imperative demand by all the band’s fans and Jenna’s aficionados. On top of that, there’s nothing really creative, stirring, or innovative to dive in. We’ve heard the same a million times before and way better. As long as they have the press & the music industry’s support these guys will continue to sell & live their “rock” dream… but what’s there afterwards? I think I’ll stick with the Jenna Haze fantasy, go to the nearest Gloryhole & do the dirty deed… as Steel Panther suggest…
