Nicolas Meier is a UK-based Swiss guitarist, who likes to blend various music styles together. Nicolas studied arranging with Max Jendly and Francis Boland before earning a scholarship to Berklee in Boston, USA and immersing himself in classic Amercian jazz (Parker, Coltrane, Miles etc.) and playing acoustic jazz and fusion. He graduated and returned to Switzerland in 1998. Later he had the chance to play alongside the legendary Jeff Beck on the Jeff Beck Band.

“Infinity” is Nicolas new studio work. On this album he has two renowned musicians by his side, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Jeff Beck etc.) and bassist Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets, Blackjack, Jing Chi, Tommy Bolin Band). Moreover, Richard Jones on violin (tracks 1, 2, 5, 8, 10), Lizzie Ball on violin (track 7), Sally Jo on violin (tracks 3, 4) and Gregor Carle on Guitar (track 11) are participating in the album:

Nicolas plays acoustic fretless and fretted nylon string and steel string guitars, glissentar, baglama, synth guitar and electric guitars. Musically, he blends classical, jazz, latin, flamenco, rock, pop-rock, Eastern and Middle Eastern music. It’s a weird yet fancy amalgam of music and it can be aptly appreciated (firstly) by musicians, who like to listen to well-crafted instrumental music that is not based on a specific music genre. For instance, “Tales” is a smooth acoustic instrumental atmospheric track with jazz touches… while the last track “JB Top” is an electric guitar track, which reminded me of Satriani and Steve Vai. Both are great tracks, no matter what. Apart from that, one can find several other favorites on “Infinity”. The only thing that you got to have is to be open-minded and ready to listen to something out of the ordinary.
