Motus Tenebrae is an Italian band that has been active since the turn of the millennium. They have released another 3 albums and an EP, making this their fifth overall release, but that hasn’t really amounted to much in terms of becoming really famous.

They do present a set of eleven songs here with their former guitarist that had sat out their past two albums making a return and assuming vocals as well. They seem to be influenced a lot by My Dying Bride but without violins and Paradise Lost with a riffy drowning gothic metal that feels to envelope you… it’s sufficiently miserable and well done, but the production and mediocre mastering really deprive songs like “Black Sun” the title track, “Haunt Me” and “Desolation” the chance to really shine in their blight. However this feels a lot more honest that Paradise Lost’s recent “sudden” decision to go “metal” again…
