“Bad Magic” Motörhead’s twenty second (?) fuck it’s easy to lose count after a while with these classic band’s isn’t such a bad, affair, but…

Let me speak my mind... for me Motörhead, as a great kick ass band expired somewhere after “Sacrifice” they have released a couple of good albums since as well as a few more that contain a few memorable songs, but they’ve never caught the devil by the tail… so to speak. For the circumstances surrounding its creation (ie Lemmy turning 70 and having a shitload of health issues) “Bad Magic” doesn’t sound “bad”, it’s actually pretty decent, and a more “virile” Lemmy might have made this a semi-classic but the guy almost goes out of breath in the studio… it’s obvious he’s struggling which is a shame but we all age…

There are a bunch of good numbers here “Victory or Die”, “Electricity”, “Evil Eye” etc. all and even the almost autobiographical “Till the End” a nice bluesy number that sounds as unapologetic as the title suggests. You can’t tell an old wolf what he is… he knows and he can feel the end coming and all he can do is howl crazed at the moon until that comes to pass  a cover of the rolling stones “Sympathy for the Devil” ain’t bad but probably as useless and poignant as can be but why not…

You can only respect, a guy like Lemmy not because you’re afraid of him or because you agree with his life choices etc. but because he is a dude that walked the walk as well as he talked the talk... that was probably his karma… so respect but don’t confuse it with contempt. This old dog still has a bite as well as it does a bark… but the end is finally in sight I’m guessing…

Not a classic but respectable and without resorting to making people feel pity. I hope this ain’t the end but hey even if it is… it’s with a small bang not with a whimper and that’s quite something…
