Masters of Metal return, after an EP, without Rick Mythiasin but with Bernie Versailles assuming vocals. The band is obviously a side project of Agent Steel since they do share the line-up and style. I do believe that the reasons keeping them from using the name might have something to do with the rift with AS singer John Cyriis, but I’m not sure…

Things are pretty much as you’d expect them to be, only Versailles, ain’t Cyriis, nor Mythiasin, who did however sound a little “silly” doing this, a little too helium lunged. This feels a bit like a mix between Agent Steel and a fast song by Armored Saint on 45 RPM or 33 RPM when they slow things down. The production is rather dry but fits the style well…

The couple of initial numbers like “Supremacy” and “World Left In Cinders” work comparatively well and then there are still highlights, like the riffier and more rhythmical “Tomb of Ra”, the initially ultra fast “The Mindless” that however loses steam and slows down, to a more muscular mid-tempo, the heavy “M.K. Ultra”, which is followed also by “Into the Vortex”, where the antithesis of heavy riffs with a more lightweight chorus works well too… and the leather lunged sung closer “Vengeance & Might”, featuring Helstar’s James Rivera.

Overall, decent, good even on occasion, but unless you’re already a fan of this style and Agent Steel/Helstar etc. in particular, this will hardly impress you…
