This UK based prog/psych/rock quartet named KingBathmat has been making music for almost a decade now. Auspiciously, their new 5th studio album is entitled “Truth Button”.

KingBathmat are presenting a very “strange” mix of music styles on this album. Of course, that “weird” music amalgamation had been present on their previous releases as well. I guess it’s nothing new to the band’s fans. But for all the others, I must say that the band’s music is a crossover of prog rock, psychedelic rock (70s), grunge, alternative, atmospheric, heavy rock (a.k.a. stoner) & hard rock. The sound is sorta contemporary, but it still has that 90s grunge/alternative/stoner taste.

What I like is their atmospheric ala Floyd, Camel etc. parts. What I don’t, is the grunge/alternative/stoner ones as I’m not a big fan of those music genres. It’s true that this “weird music blending” is good, especially if you’re into the 90s music. I kinda feel that sometimes KingBathmat are too prog for the grunge/alternative/stoner fans and way too grunge/alternative/stoner for the progsters. The album lasts about 50 minutes and the shortest song is around 7 minutes. Hence, you do know that you’re dealing with big complex music pieces that need various listens.

Since, I’m a bit “passé” and I do not quite prefer grunge/alternative/stoner music, I can only say that “Truth Button” is a decent work and nothing more. I wish there were more of their atmospheric 70s influences in their tunes and more rock music instead of grunge/alternative/stoner but that’s my point of view. Possibly, guys that are fond the aforementioned music styles will find this album much more amusing.
