John Wetton
Live via Satellite
Primary Purpose / Cherry Red
2015
John Wetton needs no special introduction since he is a renowned and very popular singer. Who hasn’t rocked with his rockers or fallen in love with his ballads with Asia over the years? John co-founded the super-group UK and has been part of King Crimson, Uriah Heep, Roxy Music and Wishbone Ash among others.
Anyhow, “Live via Satellite” features together both John Wetton’s acoustic solo concerts for radio broadcasts. This first CD features the Swedish radio broadcast in 1998, which was previously unreleased. The second CD features the XM radio broadcast in Washington DC in 2002, which was only available for sale via John’s website over 10 years ago and it only now got a commercial release. The weird thing is that the Swedish radio broadcast was supposed to have been lost in a fire, until a duplicate of the master tapes was found thanks to a long and tireless search by Wetton’s fans.
The track listing is somewhat similar on both CDs and John plays the songs along with an acoustic guitar. Most of the tracks are from John’s solo albums and a few from his Asia days. The sound is clear and you can also hear the fans’ applauding and John speaking from song to song. I do think that this double CD addresses John’s fans that have been following his solo career and wanna own anything that John has released in the past. “Live via Satellite” is only for Wetton’s die-hard fans…
