Jane Getter is a guitarist, composer & singer that has been around for more than 20 years. She has released 3 solo works till now, if I’m right, and “On” is her first album under the Jane Getter Premonition moniker.
Jane is into rock, jazz-rock, jazz, jazz/fusion and prog rock music. That’s more or less what you get on the new album “On”. She has an amazing group of musicians by her side such as: keyboardist Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steven Wilson), bass player Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats) and jazz/rock drummer Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa, Allan Holdsworth, Steven Wilson). The special guests on the album are the vocalist Corey Glover (Living Colour), the jazz/metal guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament, Savatage, Ozzy Osbourne Band) and the British saxophonist, flautist and clarinetist Theo Travis (Steven Wilson, Robert Fripp). How is it possible for such renowned & gifted musicians not to deliver the goods? Well, it’s not and “On” is full of great performances throughout. The musicianship is as strong and technical as it gets. The album was recorded at Avatar Studios in New York, mixed by Adam Holzman and Anthony Ruotolo at Spin Studios in Long Island City, NY and co-produced by Jane Getter and Adam Holzman. The sound is full & clear on the whole.
You won’t only find jazz-rock themes and complex parts on “On”… but also smooth and ambient like jazz tracks like “Where Somewhere”, “Falling” & “Transparent”. It’s not how skillful a player you are but it’s how fine melodies you deliver and Jane does deliver some very tasteful melodies on her tracks. Certainly, a release like “On” is not addressing the masses but only those who fancy jazz, rock, fusion and progressive stuff with the apt dose of melody. If you think that you fall under the latter category then give “On” at least a listen and decide on your own…
