Huldre is a Danish folk/pagan metal band that even though it was formed in 2006, it wasn’t until 2009 that they became a full band. The band has given emphasis to folk melodies, mostly from Scandinavia, with the addition of instruments like hurdy-gurdy, flutes & violin, which play an important role to the band’s music outcome. Hurdy-gurdy is an instrument that has a sound close to Cretan Lyra. The band sings on its native language, thing that will probably appeal to the Danish fans more.

Of course, the metal elements are present throughout the album and the guitars have a very heavy sound. The production is wonderful as well as really dynamic. The band’s music can be described as a mix of Lumsk, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, Gåte, Valravn, Gjallarhorn among others. There are some extreme metal touches here and there but just to add variety to the music in general.

Images of pagan places, dances under the full moon, beer, folkloric sounds and joy are coming on mind while listening to “Intet Menneskebarn”. Although I’m not into this music genre that much (especially when it is not in English), I think that this is a solid album generally. The fans of the aforementioned bands can try them out with no reservations...
